NKT North America is searching for a team oriented, local Contract Manager for its North America Champlain Hudson Power Express (CHPE) EPC Project. The CHPE project is a groundbreaking high-visibility project that will provide 1,250 MW of green, renewable hydroelectric power from the Canadian province of Quebec to approximately 1 million homes in New York City and is a giant step forward in meeting the State of New York’s goal of 70% renewable energy by 2030.  This role is responsible for performance of EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contract management, primarily for the CHPE project. The successful candidate will have the flexibility to travel as needed and provide leadership to represent NKT in front of customers and subcontractors.

As our local Contract Manager you will be work with our project management as well as senior contract management to formulate contracting strategy for various projects. As part of this you will be supporting the team’s analysis of contract risks and form mitigation strategies and will contribute by identifying and qualifying subcontractors for identified scopes of work. As part of this work you will support by:

  • Preparing or reviewing requests for proposals / tender documents for distribution to vendors
  • Reviewing and evaluating proposals for adherence to tender requirements and lead the commercial review of bids
  • Performing contract review and preparing contract summary documentation for use by project personnel
  • Assess vendor change order requests against contract / subcontract requirements
  • Coordinate with Project Controls and the finance department to ensure correct billing

Other aspects of this Contract Manager position are that you help ensure that notices and changes from NKT to the customer, to external partners, or to third parties are promptly made in accordance with contract / subcontract requirements.

To succeed in as an NKT Contract Manager, you should demonstrate an extensive business and commercial understanding, as well as have the ability to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of compliance matters. We also ask for you to have the flexibility to travel as work will involve visits to project site, customer, NKT factory and subcontractors.

Qualifications:

To thrive in this role you will need to have a good understanding of contract terms and conditions and the underlying legal principles. For this we require a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in larger EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) projects, as well as the familiarity with project planning and scheduling techniques. You should also bring along:

  • Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking and analytical skills
  • A detail-oriented mindset with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and quickly-changing environment
