As offshore assets are placed in increasingly harsh offshore environments, subsea cables are continuously subjected to extreme conditions. This exposes them to different kinds of surface or subsurface anomalies such as structures or objects lying around the cable, anchoring or fishing gear strikes on the exposed section of the cable, mechanical faults due to free spans, etc.

To increase the reliability of offshore wind electricity production, cable failures must be prevented not only through improved cable designs, manufacturing and installation but also through continuous asset monitoring as well as proactive risk mitigation activities such as surveys.

To improve the cable's operational performance, it's highly recommended to keep track of its latest physical condition, investigate associated risks and mitigate them well in advance, before they can materialize in a failure.

Carrying out periodic cable inspection surveys helps to attain the same and ensures that the cable is well protected from potential harm. Therefore, energy could be continuously and reliably transported through the seas, by extension safeguarding the owners investment.

Assess the burial depth of the cable and determine cable exposure/free spanning or monitor existing exposures/spans
